Located in the beautiful mountains of Virginia, DragonFly Hollow Kennel is a small farm dedicated to the preservation of rare breeds. My journey with Kromfohrlanders began in 2018. Three Kromfohrlanders and an amazing 2021 litter later, I am passionate about this breed. I believe in a holistic approach to breeding. Meaning that the whole dog is considered. Conformation, health testing, and especially temperament. I DNA test all of my dogs in order to make the best genetic matches and screen for genetic problems. I am very critical about who I breed so that the puppies have a greater chance of a long & healthy life. The purchase of a puppy is a commitment by both parties and making every attempt to provide families with a happy & healthy pup is my goal.  I work very hard to match the puppy to the buyers wants & lifestyle. Breeding is a passion filled with enormous responsibility. My goal is to live up to & fulfill those responsibilities.

Passion, Integrity, Artistry, Uniqueness, Noteworthy, Confidence, Honor, Love – I am Cyndi Lear and I hold all of these ideals dear. It is with these concepts in mind that we formed our kennel. I believe music and dogs to be fundamental to our humanity, which is why Doug and I collectively taught music for over 40 years and lived with dogs for even longer.
It is also why we honor the creative equivalence of a musical term in our kennel name –Learykl (a play on the music word lyrical meaning “a person’s ability to embody the emotions of the music in their performance in a way that allows the audience to experience those emotions in a meaningful way.”) Meeting a Kromfohrlander for the first time was very meaningful to us and the emotion was pure joy!
Doug and I have owned and trained dogs all our lives. We have been blessed enough to have owned, trained and loved multiple champions in multiple breeds in AKC, UKC and IABCA.
Along with our Kromfohrlanders, we have had live with us: White Shepherd, Field Spaniel, Irish Wolfhound, Berger Picard, Dachshund, Cocka-Poo, Miniature Schnauzer and Beagle-mix.
Our dogs also hold titles in multiple dog sports activities like Rally, Barn Hunt, Trick Dog and Farm Dog. All of our dogs are CGC (Canine
Good Citizen) certified. We are currently working in conformation, agility, dock diving and scentwork. Health and temperament are at the top of the list of things for which we breed. All puppies must be happy and healthy and ready to be adopted by those ready to train and love them as much as we do. Our adopters become part of our family and garner the appropriate support and encouragement needed to give our puppies the best home.
After years of study and searching for the ideal dogs, we started Learykl with the hope that we can help to preserve, sustain and amplify the rare Kromfohrlander in the USA. In December 2020
we adopted our boy, Quincy, on the left in the picture, (aka Hazell) Birkenstrand's Life in One Day, from Mary Dixon in MI. Quincy has been a breath of fresh air in our house. With his exuberance and
zest for life, he has driven Cyndi to experience new things as a teacher and handler, like dock diving (they love the water!), agility (they love to jump and climb!) and enjoying the feeling of a
dog cuddle her head in bed. Doug appreciates the contented sigh Quincy gives him while settling in his lap for a nightly nap.

Jazz (on adoption day!)

In 2021, a whirlwind named Jazz blew into our family from the state up north- Birkenstrand's Janice Joplyn @ Learykl, at right in the pic. Jazz is a bundle of energy, curiosity and our little Miss Sunshine!
She has not missed a beat here and has hurtled her way deeply into our hearts. She makes us smile every day with her funny antics, adorable face and utter devotion to our every move. We look forward to furthering this adventure by assisting her in her first litter - possibly
in the Fall of 2023.
